What happens if you answer a question incorrectly?
If you get either question wrong, you’ll only receive one driver fault.
However, during the Show Me question, remember to keep driving safely. A mistake during this part, like taking your eyes off the road for too long, could lead to a serious fault.
Common Mistakes When Answering the Show Me Question
Although you can’t fail your test for answering the Show Me question incorrectly, your driving can be affected if you don’t practise enough. Here are some common mistakes and tips to avoid them:
-
Wash and clean the rear windscreen
It’s easy to confuse front and rear washers. Pressing the wrong one could cause panic, especially if you take your eyes off the road for too long.
-
Wash and clean the front windscreen
Some cars have different controls for washers. Make sure you’re familiar with the car you’re driving, so you don’t accidentally activate signals while searching for the washer.
-
Switch on dipped headlights
Avoid turning on the fog lights by mistake! Focus on keeping control of the car while adjusting the lights. Losing control of steering could result in a driving fault.
-
Operate the horn
This is a straightforward task, but be mindful not to use it near other drivers. The examiner will ensure it’s safe to perform this task, but stay alert to changing situations.
-
Demist the front windscreen
Use the demister efficiently, especially in bad weather. You may need to do this without being prompted if your windows mist up during the test.
-
Open and close the side window
Make sure you know how the window controls work!
You don’t want to accidentally open the examiner’s window on a rainy day. (or DO YOU?)
